Family Security Services Security and emergency preparedness for families
Corporate Security Management Offered Services
  • There are few concerns more pressing than the security of one's family. With high-income or high-profile families as its clients, Insite Family Security was created to professionally address those concerns with the most strategic and intelligent security management.

We offer 24-hour support with discreet services customized to the unique needs of each client family. Our process is highly regimented starting with a survey designed to assess each client's security risks, vulnerabilities and security options. Our experienced team of former Secret Service and FBI agents and law enforcement officials then develop and execute upon a plan designed to meet the needs of individual families, multi-generational family offices, public figures, entertainment figures and their managers, executives whose work creates security concerns and members of the media. We take an active part in the training and education of family members and their personal staff to prepare them for emergency situations and threat avoidance.

High-income and high-profile families have distinct security concerns. Nevertheless, all families should have essential planning in place for what we consider security basics. These include being prepared for emergencies, teaching children about inappropriate behavior, intra-family emergency communication plans and insuring that homes are a secure haven for family members.

Insite's first focus is discovery - understanding the landscape of your family's life and its special concerns. This is accomplished through a variety of threat and vulnerability assessments that are blended into a comprehensive risk assessment that includes a profile for every family member. We then take an active part in the training and education of family members and work to prepare them for emergency situations. We also work to properly vet and empower your personal staff in basic privacy protection and train them to identify suspicious behavior.

  • Security Surveys
The first step in offering effective security advice is determining a client's degree of risk and the adequacy of the security program in place. The results of the security survey will have an impact on decisions regarding design, equipment selection and operations. Insite's technical security experts offer comprehensive security assessments across a number of disciplines in order to effectively guide security decisions.

Insite's security survey begins with a comprehensive examination of the client's potential security vulnerabilities and a gap analysis comparing the present state to best practices. Beyond merely identifying deficiencies in security, our security surveys provide a road map for security improvements to reduce the risks we have uncovered. We assist clients in mitigating their physical security risks against threats including kidnapping, home invasion, theft and privacy violations. We evaluate a family's vulnerabilities to these risks and determine the likelihood that a threat will be realized. We then recommend appropriate security measures for implementation to reduce these types of risks.

Beyond the threats facing a home, Insite also examines security for each family member. These issues center on matters such as industry risk, profile and travel practices. Our comprehensive security survey process looks not only at threats to buildings but also those directed at the people who live inside.

If the client has an existing security program, Insite may perform a security audit, a thorough assessment of the effectiveness of existing security policies and the efficacy of their execution. These reviews cover a broad range of topics including staff management, access control and emergency preparedness.
  • Threat Management
Wealthy families are often approached by individuals who either have a service to sell or want something urgently from a family they perceive as having a lot to give. Some of these people may become uncomfortably persistent. The universe of disturbed or unhappy people is a large one, and Insite focuses on anyone whose behavior is inappropriate: disgruntled ex-employees, activists, con artists, stalkers, photographers and even mentally ill family members.

This is an area in which law enforcement is not a resource. Typically the police act after a crime has occurred when their purpose is to collect enough evidence to support a successful prosecution. With no crime evident, they have no role to play. Even in the case of an arrest, many incidents that are deeply upsetting to a family are considered only low-grade misdemeanors, with little or no jail time attached. Further, the business of the police is not long-term threat management. The threat will still be there and in many cases is worse after a prosecution.

At Insite, we work with our clients for the long term. We train family members and employees how to screen mail and identify patterns in unusual communications so that we can assess their danger and take appropriate steps if we are concerned there is the possibility of a genuine threat. We also impress upon executives, who often dismiss eccentric correspondence at the office, that every threat to them individually could be a threat to their family as well.
  • Kidnapping Resolution Practice
To help protect our high net worth clients and families, Insite has a dedicated Kidnapping Resolution Practice, headed by internationally acclaimed kidnapping negotiator Christopher Voss.

Many clients carry kidnap and ransom (K&R) insurance but are unaware that, in the event of a kidnapping, the assigned negotiator works for the insurer, not the victim. Insite provides clients an experienced, independent negotiator, who represents only their interests in dealing with hostage takers and does so within hours of an emergency call. We believe that the combined factors of independence, experience and speed result in quicker and safer resolutions of hostage-taking events.

Mr. Voss has unparalleled experience. He has worked on more than 150 kidnapping cases worldwide and has been trained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Scotland Yard and Harvard University. During his tenure with the FBI, Mr. Voss climbed up the ranks to become the bureau's lead international kidnapping negotiator at the Crisis Negotiation Unit based at Quantico. Prior to that, Mr. Voss was a member of the New York City Joint Terrorist Task Force.

  • Environmental Security
Insite's Environmental Security division provides clients end-to-end support in the design and installation of security systems in existing or new construction. We take a comprehensive approach that results in security systems that are both easy to use and consistent between multiple residences, so the owner remains in control.

Our value lies in our independent and unbiased professional advice, recommending the appropriate measures you should take and the devices that truly meet your needs. If you need closed circuit television or unusual communication systems to screen visitors or deliveries, you will have intelligent criteria on which to base your investment in high-tech equipment. Equally important is using landscaping and lighting around your property to deter intruders.

Our technical experts draft security requirements based on our threat and vulnerability assessments. Security engineers draft plans and riser diagrams in CAD format and publish performance specifications and vendor-support requirements. Insite's technical security consultants then work with architects, interior decorators and others to integrate security consistent with the aesthetics of the project.

Once the system has been designed, Insite can oversee a bid process and negotiate on a client's behalf. We continue to support the project by overseeing the installation process and checking system operations at the conclusion of the job. Most importantly, Insite's consultants remain independent throughout the process. We do not sell security equipment nor do we accept compensation from vendors or manufacturers.
  • Staff Management
Household staff raise two important security concerns. First is the assurance that prospective employees have the appropriate background to work in your home. Second is the training of staff members to recognize and respond to security threats and other emergencies.

Anyone who shares an intimate relationship with your family, whether they are a housekeeper, chef, member of the cleaning staff, driver, personal assistant or nanny, needs to be thoroughly investigated. Insite provides the confidence needed to know that the individual whom you are inviting into your home, and in some cases to become a member of your family, has the appropriate background and experience to deserve the trust you place in them.

As part of its staff management practice, Insite trains employees to effectively screen visitors, mail, phone calls or deliveries and to know exactly what steps to take if they become suspicious or have concerns. In addition, Insite is available to review confidentiality and nondisclosure agreements of family staff to provide an additional perspective to that of the family attorney.

    MANAGING TEMPORARY STAFF
Many families conduct background checks of regular employees. Of equal concern for many are those individuals who have temporary access to your home. While they often appear invisible, they are privy to a great deal of information about the physical layout of your house and its domestic routines. These might include day laborers employed by a roofing contractor or the staff of a caterer hired for a special event. Anyone who has access to your home should be pre-identified and checked, because it is likely that the vendor who has hired them has little or no background information on them.

Insite develops procedures and guidelines for monitoring who is working in your home. This might include asking contractors to submit an employee list several days in advance so we can use their personal information to identify questionable individuals early.
  • Information Security
As families and family offices become more electronically integrated and digitally connected to others the information security risks become more diverse and have a greater impact on security in general. When managed in a coordinated fashion within the Family Security Service, computer and communications security can be effectively delivered and used to complement other facets of an integrated security program.

Insite's IT Security consultants perform a wide variety of services, which provide appropriate security program development, implementation and ongoing support focused on the needs of families and family offices. These services include:

    Security Audits and Assessments
    Penetration Testing
    Vulnerability Assessments
Usage audits of workstations either covertly or overtly
Malware Sweeps (Keyloggers, Trojans, Rootkits, etc.)
Comprehensive Security Assessment with full remediation
Deployment of Network Forensics Collectors to analyze network traffic for anomalies and usage trends
Development of family-specific IT security policies
Integration of family security practices with corporate counterparties
  • Collections Security
Insite provides museum-quality protection for your most valuable possessions. We understand the culture of collectors and work with curators, art dealers and other custodians of fine art on a daily basis. We balance the need to utilize and enjoy your collection with the need to keep it secure by developing customized plans that maintain an invisible cloak of security. Be it art, wine, cars or antiques, Insite develops customized security plans that allow families to enjoy and use their collections while maintaining the highest security.

Insite integrates multiple redundancies with both onsite electronic security systems (sensors, alarms, etc.) and operational security to ensure that all components are communicating with perimeter security. For example, for a home equipped with automatic gates, Insite can install relays between the collections security system and the gate operator to close and lock the gate upon alarm, preventing a thief from absconding with your valuables.

  • Travel Security
Traveling presents serious security issues for high net worth individuals and their families. While your home and office may be protected, there are many more variables when traveling domestically and abroad, particularly when traveling in the developing world or politically unstable regions.

At Insite, we employ Secret Service level security measures to ensure your family's safety while traveling. We consider emergency medical, linguistic and transportation needs so that you and your family can enjoy travel knowing that there is a safety plan in place.

Our analysts begin by conducting a full destination review of the itinerary. We then provide a detailed briefing on the region covering issues such as: the local political situation, street crime statistics, local holiday and event schedules, hotel recommendations, detailed maps and emergency contact information, including embassy and hospital information. We vet your choice of hotel to ensure that it meets fire safety standards and carefully construct fire and emergency evacuation plans for each location.

Insite coordinates safe transport to and from a destination and during your stay. If needed, we can personally accompany family members or hire local security staff. We provide drivers with the optimum routes between destinations, as well as alternate routes, safe houses, medical emergency procedures and the nearest trauma centers for every trip for which they are responsible. We also independently verify the qualifications of private pilots and the airworthiness of private aircraft utilizing an in-house investigator, who is both a commerciallyrated pilot and an experienced detective.

Our medical advance process includes a detailed report and personalized medical kit for your trip. We ensure that we not only have all of your (and your family's) complete medical history in electronic format, but we also assign physicians to vet local medial resources and advise you about destination medical concerns prior to your departure. In the event of a medical issue, our on-call physician will consult with you and coordinate your care, from making arrangements with screened local doctors to arranging a medical evacuation.
